Gregatron POTW: The Open Championship

Top of da mornin’ to ya! Hopefully you’ve caught some of the coverage at the Open Championship on Day One in Portrush, Northern Ireland. Sorry the Gregatron was AWOL last week at the John Deere Classic. He was taking a much needed vacation, ironically in the town where John Deere invented the plow. We’re back in full force this week for the much anticipated final major of the year. Can Koepka keep his top-2 streak alive? Will Tiger channel his inner Ben Hogan and come off the bench firing on all cylinders? Will Jordan or Rory return to major glory? Too many variables are at play, mainly the weather. Who doesn’t love links golf, the purest form of this great game? Get ready for a fun week.

Gregatron’s Pick of the Week: Jon Rahm

The recent Irish Open champion is overlooked at most majors. Does anyone remember he already has a victory and 9 top tens on the PGA Tour this season? Easy to do without the major on his resume. Tough to argue against stats though. Rahm is 13th in scoring average and 4th in driving. He also has 4 top-tens in his last 7 majors. With a new course in the rotation this week, driving accuracy will be key to scoring. Look the name Rahm on top of the leaderboard come Sunday.

Back to the Caddyshack Lad: Francesco Molinari

The defending champion is in a slump after his struggles on the back nine of the Masters. His best finish and only top-40 since then is a T-16 at the U.S. Open. He’s not particularly long, although he hits a lot of fairways. It will all come down to his putting and if he can improve upon his 124th ranking. I think he’s returned the Claret Jug for another year.
